Here, There and Everywhere

For three consecutive Fridays, my house is filled with the smell of Bubur Assyura, a traditional delicacy cooked in celebration of the 10th of Muharram. Why? Google it yourself lah. What I know is, every year on this date (or a week before and many weeks after) my mom would be busy going here and there, coming home with bags of red beans, white beans, rice, fish, the Asyura spice and many other things. It's always her duty to buy the ingredients, delegate the duties among the closest neighbors and then dutifully watch them do the "kacau-kacau" (stirring) the heavy lumpy porridge.

This year, we did the Asyura porridge three times. THREE times can you believe that? And all is performed in the small of our kitchen. I'm not a big fan of this kind of porridge, because I'm more like a Bubur Lambuk fan. Therefore, having to stay at home for three Fridays, smelling the food that I don't like was such a torture to me!!!
